ONBOARD FOR KIDS
Can you say Double Dutch, Bingo, Multicultural Arts & Crafts, Movies, Storytelling, Reading Circles, Money Management for Kids, and more? We’re organizing an exciting array of multicultural games, contests, activities, and edutainment events for the DollsLikeMe.com onboard family. We’re bringing along plenty of prizes for the winners (and sometimes the losers).
Junior Photographers & Filmmakers Needed
While onboard, we’ll recruit a team of junior photographers and two filmmakers to document our cruise. We’ll post the best photos on the DollsLikeMe.com Website for all to see. We plan to make this a multicultural family vacation experience of a lifetime.
NCL Spirit
If ever a ship were custom-built for families, the Spirit is it. There is a video arcade filled with games and activities that will keep older children and teens occupied for hours. There's a teen disco, and an activity room for younger children with climbing tubes and tunnels, a ball crawl, and lots of soft toys, all in bright primary colors. There's an outdoor activity area and a crafts section. And then there is Buccaneer's Wet and Wild, an onboard water park, with a pool surrounded with caves and a mountain, two small slides that require entry through a tunnel, fountains and pirate muskets blasting water, and even a children's hot tub.
Age-appropriate Kids Crew activities might include storytelling and painting for juniors, while older children visit the video arcade or participate in team-building sports and games; there are also supervised Kids Crew dinners, free with sign-up. The Spirit even has an amphitheater so parents can sit and watch their kids play while enjoying a beer or drink from the Raffles bar.
Special Notes
During days in port, parents booked on excursions can leave tykes between the ages of 2 and 12 behind for supervised complimentary "Port Play" from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. At night, group babysitting is available from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m.; the cost is $5 per hour, $3 per hour for siblings in the same family (charged to guests' onboard accounts).
Children who are not potty trained are able to participate in the Kids Crew program -- but youth staffers are not allowed to change diapers; parents will need to remain onboard and carry a beeper so that they can fulfill that particular duty.
ONBOARD FOR PARENTS
NCL Spirit
Norwegian Cruise Line has long been known for its excellent production shows and entertainment, the Spirit is no exception. The Stardust Theater is one of the finest at sea. The shows are elaborate, colorful and exciting. Evening entertainment includes live music on a daily basis, including dancing to live music (nightly) in Galaxy of the Stars. There is also music in the Celebrity Disco and a D.J. spinning popular dance tunes in Maharini's.
There are plenty of fun adult activities ranging from craft lessons (beaded geckos!) to learning a foreign language - and plenty of onboard games, including trivia contests, bingo, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and even "The Weakest Link," with shipboard logo prizes given out to the winners.
The casino, Maharaja's, offers a huge array of slot machines ranged from five cents to $25 table games.
There are also art auctions, if you are so inclined.
This ship also has plenty to keep the avid exercise junkie busy, including a terrific Sports-at-Sea program, a walking circuit, a running track, basketball and volleyball courts, a golf cage, and Ping-Pong tables.
There is one large swimming pool, big enough for early-morning lap swims, surrounded by four large hot tubs. The gym is well equipped, including two heated 6 ft. wide by 12 ft. long swim-against-the-current pools.
There are separate changing rooms, relaxation rooms, and steam and sauna rooms for men and women. The Roman Spa offers treatments ranging is around $100; look for specials in the Freestyle Daily, especially on port days.
